Member of Parliament for Kwabre East Constituency in the Ashanti region, Hon Onyina Acheampong Akwasi Gyamfi has asserted that as technology advances, digital literacy has become a necessity and STEM education playing a critical role in developing skills, the government and for that matter the Ghana education service must increase the focus on digital literacy.
According to him, in the 21st century, STEM education that is Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics has become crucial for societal progress and individual success.
Hon Onyina Acheampong Akwasi Gyamfi made the assertion when he donated ghc10,000 to Our Lady of Grace OLAG, senior high school at Mampoteng for placing 3rd and 4th positions in 2025 world robotics competition at Technological University in Michigan-USA.
He commended the students for taking bold steps of competing the world and coming with glory not only for themselves and the school but also for Kwabre East, Ashanti region and Ghana at large, he also encouraged the rest of the students to emulate and strive for progress.
Mr Onyina Acheampong explained the amount gifted, according to him ghc7000 must be given to the 7 students who participated in the competition whilst ghc1000 to be given to the Coach/Tutor who led the students and the remaining ghc2000 should go to the school.
Highlighting the importance of STEM education, the Law Maker stated that, STEM graduates are in high demand with skills that make people more employable in today’s fast-paced job market.
The Headmaster of the OLAG school, Rev. Fr Sylvester Frimpong explained that 2 challenges, GAME and BOTTLE SUMO were selected for 2025 robosfest world championship.

“Among Ghana schools that participated, Apam senior high school also performed 2nd position in the BOTTLE SUMO competition whilst our OLAG school placed 4th position.
Our children had the 3rd position in the most challenging and prestigious competition, thus the GAME challenge China and Hong Kong placed the 1st and 2nd position. In the GAME challenge the schools were asked to make a robots that can be used to park materials/goods at an industrial area or warehouse” Rev. Fr. Sylvester Frimpong explained to news men.

According to him robotics is practical, the application of mathematics and science to solve problems, and it is imperative for Ghanaians to adopt and consider STEM as part of program of study.
