Akrofuom-Sikaman Military Helicopter Crash: Nabdam Traditional Council Pays Tribute To Victims

Nabdam Traditional Council in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of key government officials and military personnel on Wednesday 6th August 2025 at Sikaman Brofoyedru in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti region.

In a statement signed by the Nabdam Overlords, Naba Periyoung Asaga Yelzoya II, the Traditional Council extended its heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, acknowledging their selfless service to the nation.

According to the Council, those men were not ordinary travellers. They were statesmen and servicemen—patriots united by a common calling to serve Ghana with honour, dignity, and devotion. It explained further that, whiles the politicians were men of vision and responsibility, carrying the hopes of their people, the military officers were gallant defenders of peace, faithful to duty and to the oath they swore to uphold.

“Their sudden passing is a deep loss—not only to their families and institutions, but to the entire nation, As custodians of tradition and identity, we honour their memory and pray their noble souls find rest in the bosom of eternity” part of the Condolences statement read.

In a separate statement released by the Presidency, all official activities and engagements of the President for the remainder of the week have been suspended.

The Chief of Staff has also directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast until further notice.

President John Dramani Mahama has also directed the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, to take on additional responsibility as Minister for Defence, and Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah is expected to act as Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology

The victims were en route to Obuasi to participate in the formal launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme, a key initiative aimed at tackling illegal mining and promoting sustainable small-scale mining practices.
