Deputy Minister designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection and Member of Parliament for Kwabre East Constituency in the Ashanti region, Hon. Francisca Oteng Mensah is advocating for breast cancer disease be absorbed into the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS to be able to treat majority of people with the disease who are less privileged to healthcare.
According to her, it is imperative and good step that the government through the NHIS authorities to consider and captivate the screening and treatment of breast cancer unto the scheme due to the stressful way of how majority of women pass through before they get access to healthcare because of financial constraints.
Hon Francisca Oteng Mensah said this when she organized a 4 days free screening on breast cancer, hypotension and diabetes for her constituents at Ahwiaa and Abirem as part of the October breast cancer awareness campaign.
About 100s of health-conscious individuals converged at Ahwiaa and Abirem near Kenyasi in the same Municipality, to take part in this year’s breast cancer and other related diseases campaign which offered opportunity for hundreds of women and men to have free screening to know their breast cancer status.
As every year, October is earmarked for breast cancer awareness, this year’s campaign is dubbed on the theme ‘Breast Cancer Won’t Rest, Why Should We?’
The NPP Legislator for Kwabre East Royals reiterated that, it is time breast cancer treatment be given equally attention as covid-19.
The Deputy Gender, children and social protection minister designate told the gathering she was worried that lots of women were still wasting away at homes, prayer camps and unapproved treatment centres.
She called on all and sundry to be part of the crusade to wage a war on breast cancer to save the number of women dying from the disease.
